5 March, 14:00-15:30.

To you who are interested in Global Sustainable Futures and sustainable development on a global scale

The President and CEO of Chalmers and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gothenburg have decided to establish a new joint platform for collaboration called Global Sustainable Futures (GSF). The overarching goal is to develop science-based knowledge, education and collaborations that contribute towards attaining the goals of Agenda 2030, as well as the needs beyond 2030. The objectives include to promote and facilitate existing and new activities, and to build strong relationships between our two universities and external partners, with special emphasis on collaboration with partners in low- and middle-income countries.

The new platform begins operations in 2020 and its first activities are on their way. The platform is organised within Gothenburg Centre for Sustainable Development (GMV) and a secretariat is being established at GMV. The team currently consists of GMV staff members Daniela Michael, Olof Drakenberg, Annika Källvik and Jan Riise, and a new platform leader will be recruited shortly.

The platform will be led by a board appointed by the President and CEO of Chalmers and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gothenburg. The terms of reference and statutes for the board are currently being determined, and as soon as these guidelines are in place a new board can be formed and start its work.

The East Africa Initiative
The East Africa Initiative, started by Rector Stefan Bengtsson at Chalmers, has also moved to GMV as of 1 January. Project manager Daniela Michael is now based at GMV and takes part in the development of GSF. This gives us excellent opportunities to explore synergies and collaboration possibilities, not least the workshop planned for early May in Kigali, Rwanda. Chalmers and University of Gothenburg will participate with eight East African universities. More information to come!

Do you want to know more about GSF?
You receive this mail as you have participated in meetings regarding the Global South at Chalmers and/or the University during 2017,2019, or if you are listed as project leader in any project connected to Low- and Middle-Income Countries.

Please circulate this information to people you know are interested in sustainable development in a global perspective. We look forward to seeing you and the work ahead.
